Augustine1.jpg (17811 bytes)

Augustine Volcano, Alaska.  During 1986, an impressive eruption column rises above a lava dome growing at the summit of this 1,282 meter volcanic island in the Cook Inlet.  Pyroclastic flows can sweep down the flanks of Augustine into the inlet and generate destructive tsunamis.                                                                        Photo by M.E.
