Bob’s first volcano examination was a command performance for the Indonesian government in 1960. The question was "Will the present eruptions of Anak Krakatau result in another 1883 catastrophe?" His weak answer was, "I don’t think so." But he was hooked, and has been studying volcanoes ever since.
