Cerro Negro Volcano, Nicaragua. Ash and cinders erupt from the summit crater in 1968 as a vent near the base of the 150 meter-high cinder cone feeds a basaltic lava flow. The bubbling vent of red-hot lava is the same vent seen close up in the time exposure of Cerro Negro 1.                              Photo copyright R.W. Decker
